REASONS TO WATCH 5

Having changed horror forever with A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), director Wes Craven did it again in 1996 with Scream . New to 4K this month, here are five reasons to revisit this bonafide classic.

1. With Scream 7 in cinemas this month, the original proves its lasting impact. Wes Craven blends suspense, clever storytelling, and jump scares while reviving slashers after a decade of supernatural horror, defining ’90s horror. 2. Scream was self-aware, with characters discussing slasher rules, clichés, and survival strategies. Its clever, humorous approach was ahead of its time, influencing countless films and TV shows that followed in its meta footsteps. 3. Ghostface’s simple mask, knife, and chilling calls made it instantly iconic. Terrifying and quotable, the character reshaped horror villains and remains one of the genre’s most enduring and influential figures. 4. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Kennedy, and Drew Barrymore formed a formidable ensemble, elevating horror casting by mixing rising stars with established talent. 5. Scream launched Kevin Williamson’s career, leading to Dawson’s Creek and hits like I Know What You Did Last Summer . In a full-circle moment, he now returns to the franchise as director of Scream 7 .

One of my earliest memories is watching the original Sam Raimi Spider Man at the cinema and being amazed by the action sequences and how it made Spider-Man feel so real and unlike anything I’d ever seen before. What’s one of your all-time favourite films, and why? My all time favourite film is Goodfellas . Anything starring Robert De Niro will get me hooked, but the performances across the board are amazing and the story is one of the best mobster tales ever put to film. What’s one of your all-time favourite TV series, and why? My all time favourite show is Family Guy . The comedy in the show very much aligns with my sense of humour and the mix of personalities amongst the characters makes it so easy to watch. What have you been watching lately that you’d recommend? I would highly recommend One Battle After Another , as it was my favourite film of 2025. An amazing blend of drama, action, and comedy. And F1, The Long Walk, and Sinners are some other recent releases that are a lot of fun.
