FEATURE TECH

Get ready for bigger and more colourful TVs TVs RGB TVs were the newest buzz in display tech at CES 2026. Here’s what’s new, who’s leading the charge, and what it means for your lounge room.

RGB is the next big leap in TV picture quality. Micro RGB and RGB Mini-LED ditch the old idea of using white or blue LEDs with colour filters. Instead, they use tiny red, green, and blue LEDs directly in the backlight.

The result? Brighter screens, purer colours, better contrast, and more detail – especially on big TVs. Colours look more natural, highlights pop without blowing out, and dark scenes keep their detail instead of turning into a murky mess.

Get ready for Dolby Vision 2 Dolby Vision 2 is the next generation HDR format set to usher in a new era of TV picture quality, with two tiers – standard and Max – for mainstream and premium TVs. It builds on traditional Dolby Vision with a redesigned image engine and AI-powered Content Intelligence to optimise picture quality based on content type and room lighting conditions. New features will include Precision Black, Light Sense, bi-directional tone mapping, and Authentic Motion for better contrast, colour, motion, and ambient-light adaptation. Expect to see Dolby Vision 2 on selected 4K TVs from brands like Hisense, TCL and Philips in 2026.

LG Micro RGB evo LG is entering the RGB TV space with the Micro RGB evo, which uses LG’s smallest-ever RGB LEDs, controlled with OLED-style precision. Powering it all is the new α 11 AI Processor Gen 3, which sharpens images while keeping textures looking natural. LG’s RGB Primary Colour Ultra tech delivers its most accurate LCD colours ever, with full certification for BT.2020, DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB – the standards used in cinema, HDR, and creative work.

Contrast is handled by thousands of dimming zones to fine-tune brightness scene by scene. Add LG’s slick webOS smart platform with Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, plus personalised profiles and AI picture and sound tuning, and this shapes up as LG’s most advanced LCD TV yet.

Hisense RGB Mini-LED evo

more accurate colour, stronger contrast, and up to 20% better energy efficiency. For 2026, the brand adds an industry-first Sky Blue–Cyan LED, filling a part of the colour spectrum our eyes are especially sensitive to. The result is smoother colour gradients, more natural skin tones, and less colour crush in everyday viewing. The flagship 116-inch UX RGB Mini-LED evo TV hits 110%

of BT.2020 colour with Pantone certification, upgraded anti-glare tech, and a 6.2.2 sound system. Hisense is also expanding RGB Mini-LED to more homes with the UR Series, offering sizes from 55 to 100 inches and gamer-friendly refresh rates up to 180Hz. Looking further ahead, the brand has also teased future RGBY MicroLED displays, adding a fourth colour for even greater accuracy.

Hisense leads the RGB Mini-LED charge with RGB Mini-LED evo, building on the tech it introduced in 2025. Instead of filtered light, the display uses individually controlled red, green, and blue LEDs to deliver

Samsung Micro RGB TV

Samsung has made headlines at CES 2026 with the world’s first 130-inch Micro RGB TV, but the tech isn’t

delivering 100% BT.2020 colour. Glare Free tech cuts reflections, while HDR10+ ADVANCED keeps highlights sharp.

just for mega-sized screens. The brand also showcased Micro RGB displays in more mainstream sizes, signalling broader rollout plans. The TVs use Samsung’s Micro RGB AI Engine Pro to boost colour, contrast, and detail in real time,

Smart features include Vision AI Companion, AI Football Mode Pro, Generative Wallpaper, and Microsoft Copilot, while sound is built directly into the frame, helping the TV feel more like a premium design piece than a traditional screen.

LG Wallpaper TV Rounding things out is LG’s OLED evo W6 Wallpaper TV. A mere 9mm thin, as the name suggests it mounts flush to the wall and connects wirelessly to a separate Zero Connect Box that handles all inputs. It’s also LG’s brightest OLED TV to date, delivering up to 3.9 times the brightness of standard OLED while cutting reflections.
