# 1 MY FIRST ALBUM
The new Ocean Grove album - Oddworld . I’m obsessed! That band has so many layers, and I get excited about anything they do. What’s your all-time favourite album and why? A Beautiful Lie by Thirty Seconds to Mars. I remember hearing the song ‘the kill’ when I was like nine. I was hooked immediately and have loved that band ever
I purchased my first album, John Farnham’s Age of Reason , when I was about 11. I saved up the money to buy it from the local electronics store that also sold CDs and vinyl. I’ve always been a huge fan, and watching one of John’s concerts on TV inspired me to get the album. It was a special picture disc CD, and I absolutely loved looking through the booklet and reading along with the lyrics and credits as I listened. It really got me interested in the entire recording process. Years later, when we had the opportunity to duet and perform with John, I was able to express my gratitude to him for inspiring me to pursue a career in singing. He responded with a heartfelt, “Well, I did a good thing.” It was so great to get that opportunity. Still today, as many others do, I continue to love listening to his records. MIKE TIERNEY

since. They’ve helped me get through some rough points in my life and they’ve been there for me for my best ones. I saw the band recently in Melbourne and I cried three times. Do you have a vinyl collection? If so, how did it begin, and expand? Yes, I only started it in December 2023. I put it off for so long so I wouldn’t spend so much money on records. But here we are not much later and I’ve probably bought one or two records a week! Whoops. What do you enjoy most about working in music at JB? I just love that physical media is still alive. I love talking to customers about why they’re still buying CDs and what their favourite band is. I’ve kept buying physical media, so I will eventually have an entire collection to pass down to my kids one day so they understand their parents music taste and to develop their own. And I love being a part of that journey for others.

What’s an early, cherished music memory? My uncle keeping me awake until 3am forcing me to listen to Pink Floyd on full blast. I hated it at the time as I was only a kid, but it’s a very fond memory now and he helped shape my music taste to this day. Which recent album do you currently have on repeat?

just stream (I know, it’s bad). The latest album I’ve been streaming is Eating & Drinking & Being in Love by Theo Kandel. Aside from yourself, which musician would you most like to be? Maggie Rogers. What’s the most ridiculous item you’ve ever put on your rider? Hydralyte and tequila... it’s all about balance .
What would be your Hard Quiz expert subject? Something Disney/Marvel/Harry Potter related. Song you wish you’d written? Gabrielle Aplin’s My Mistake or Theo Kandel’s On My Mind . If you weren’t a rock star, what would you be? I think an osteo or masseuse or a hairdresser? Last album you bought? Oh wow, I haven’t bought any; I
Your funeral song? Somewhere Over the Rainbow – Eva Cassidy. Happiness is… Being with loved ones, drinking wine, and playing music.
Five words to describe yourself:
Weird. Funny. Hard-working. Introvert/extrovert. Creative. Your all-time favourite album? Are you joking? That’s such a hard question. OK, an album that is deeply nostalgic for me is Songbird by Eva Cassidy. What did your most memorable school report say? Probably something like, “Mia is distracted in class.”
